I know if you are anything like me, you love to go take class at your local studio with your favorite teacher, but few of us are able to make that happen as often as our bodies and our minds really need it.
One of my favorite Maine Yoga Fest teachers, Jacqui Bonwell, has referred to it as “putting gas in your gas tank", your practice gives you fuel for cultivating patience and perspective through the rest of your day and your life.
Whether it be a meditation or yoga asana practice, taking it home on a regular basis could really help to change your life in an incredibly positive and powerful way. Start by just committing to make it to your mat or meditation cushion for 5-10 minutes a day and let your practice grow naturally from there.
Here are 3 great Steps to create your ideal practice space in your home.
1. Start with a finding a space. It needs to be big enough for your mat or meditation cushion. If you have room for a low table to serve as an alter that would be awesome but you can also just use the floor or the corner of your dresser. Flooring and lighting can also be an important considerations when selecting your potential spot.
2. Keep this newly designated sacred space a clutter-free zone. Remove anything that could be a distraction (that most definitely means your cell-phone and any other technology). You want this spot to be one that lets you focus and instantly calms your mind. To make that happen choose peaceful tones and colors.
3. Accessorize. Make the area yours. You want to enter your home practice space, see your alter and be immediately reminded of your intention and authentic self. Use objects and treasures that represent your heart and soul. They can serve as symbols, offerings or to energetically enhance the environment.
