The sun hadn’t even risen when we packed the cars and started the trek from Maine. Five o’clock is an ungodly hour but after we brushed the sleep out of our eyes and realized why we were up, it didn’t seem that early.
Yoga Reaches Out was started by Sarah Gardner (superwoman) in 2010 to raise money and awareness for different children’s charities. This year $500,000 was raised for the Boston Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Tumor Foundation. These charities impact children’s lives in immeasurable ways.
We heard from a young man who had cancer and his story was filled with both sorrow and strength but his triumph over the disease was miraculous. Hearing stories like that makes us realize that we are all seva’s and must use our able bodies and minds to help others in their time of need.
The emotional practice was met with asana as we were lead through a beautiful flow with some heavy hitters from Boston. Jacqui Bonwell opened and David Magone closed us out with a divine savasana. It was enlightening to have different styles mixed into one class - a true treat for our bodies. We also were lucky enough to practice with headliner Bryan Kest whose authenticity and humor is electrifying. Topped off with the best vegan ice cream we’ve ever had, Sunday was an utter success!
We are blessed to be part of such a generous and open community and it is amazing to see how the practice of yoga can transform peoples lives. To all those that we met - we look forward to serving our communities along side you again soon!
