We took a break from the normal yoga routine to experience Kelsey’s cranking Metabolic Effect class at the Parisi Speed School in the OA Performance Center in Saco. The Speed School works with athletes of all levels to improved their strength and performance and to help prevent and minimize injuries. My two sons have been active Parisi participants for two years, receiving weekly dryland training sessions at the Performance Center before their hockey practices. Now, it was time for mom to give it a try!
Wow – Kelsey’s hour long class did not disappoint. Medicine balls, grape vines, sled drags, box jumps, what a great compliment to our less dynamic yoga workout. We were paired in small groups and shifted through three different interval stations. It was interesting to see how some activities were easier than others. In yoga, we tone and strengthen but it became apparent quickly that there were some muscles being underutilized. The next day, I could point to exactly where they were. I have already started adding some of the more dynamic movements from Kelsey’s class into my normal workout routine. Make sure to check out the video for a closer look!
We are excited to have OA Orthopedics and the Parisi Speed School as new partners of MYF. OA Orthopedics will be offering complimentary consultations at the First Care Tent. Bring your aches and pains and they can help evaluate any training injuries. The Parisi Speed School will be hosting fun, spirited strength and performance competitions for kids and adults. Ever wondered how high you can jump or how fast you can run? You’ll find out this summer at MYF.

Maine YogaFest (MYF) was founded by three friends - Justine Carlisle, Terri Patterson and Regan Johnson - to share their love of yoga with others. It is a two-day celebration of Maine's amazing local yoga talent and aims to support the growth of our economy by featuring local music, food and vendors throughout the weekend.
