Charles TerhuneCharles Terhune has been practicing yoga for eleven years and teaching for nine. He is an Associate Baptiste Power Vinyasa Teacher, with Level I and Level II Teacher Training with Baron Baptiste to his name. He has also done a month long yoga teacher training with Ana Forrest. He completed the Assisting program at the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute (BPYI) in Cambridge, MA and was assisted in classes at the Cambridge studio. He was the BPYI facilities manager for three years and participated in "The Business of Yoga" panel at the 2004 Yoga Journal Conference in Boston.
"I was called to teach, having begun my yoga practice with only the intention of getting in some exercise. Soon I found myself enthralled by my practice and amazed what I could do with a six and a half foot frame weighing over 250lbs. I love teaching yoga because I love to bring this practice that changed my life to other people. I see my students as Michelangelo saw a piece of marble; within a form laden with flaws, impurities and faults lies a powerful, beautiful being waiting to be released from inside. There may be some cracking, chipping away of stone and sweat blood sweat and tears. And it is this work that transforms us from human beings into spiritual beings with beautiful human bodies." |
Class Description
Yoga for Desk Jockeys -
If...
You sit for hours a day at your desk at work or at home.
Your hands look like those of a 19th century factory worker after using a mouse all day.
Your spine gets more compressed than that video you slaved over and had to email to the client at 4AM.
After a day staring at the monitor you look more like Gollum than you'd like to admit.
Then there is hope for you, desk jockey. And that hope is yoga.
Join Charles Terhune, senior teacher and co-owner of Portland Power Yoga, in a class designed specifically for those of us who sit at work all day typing, editing, gaming or simply surfing the web. Even if you stand all day for work this workshop will benefit you. Charles will discuss posture, the benefits of a few simple yoga poses and asana sequence done throughout the day and the importance of a dedicated yoga practice in keeping the body strong and limber to enable the mind to stay focused and sharp.
