I have been teaching yoga since 2002 and am a 500 Hour Certified Baptiste Power Yoga teacher.  I am a Yin Yoga teacher, training with Josh Summers in 2008, a Yoga Nidra teacher as well as a Certified Alexander Technique teacher. In the spring of 2018, I became certified mediator as qualified through University of Southern Maine (USM) in Portland.
I graduated from Hampshire College with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and was a professional modern dancer for 10 years, studying and performing in NYC, Boston and LA.
I learned the technique of Transcendental Meditation when I was 13 and meditated twice a day for 15 years.  At the 15 year mark, I was introduced to the Shambala Meditation practice and continue my sitting practice based on the teachings of Chogyam Rinpoche. I have also studied Vipassana meditation as well as the mindfulness practices of the Buddhist tradition.
I began practicing at the Baptiste Studio in Cambridge, MA in 2001 and became a class assistant later that year.  I started teaching at the studio in 2002 and from 2002 to 2003, I assisted and/or produced 13 Baptiste programs at Kripalu Institute, Omega Institute, and Maya Tulum, Mexico.  I also assisted programs in Texas, Montana, Utah and Chicago. I had the good fortune to work directly under the tutelage of Baron Baptiste as well as master teacher Rolf Gates.  I am currently under the mentorship of master teacher Coeli Marsh.
I owned Portland Power Yoga in Portland Maine for 8 years with my husband Charles Terhune.  The studio opened in 2006 and was the first heated Baptiste Power Yoga studio in Maine.  I owned the studio for 8 years.
Following the sale of PPY, I became the Director of Teachers at Down Dog Yoga in Washington DC owned by Patty Ivey.  Down Dog Yoga was the first heated Baptiste Studio in DC and from one studio there are now 4 premiere studios in the greater DC area.
I currently teach at a multi faceted studio in Scarborough Maine called CRISP.  This facility is the first of it's kind to successfully offer yoga, boot camp and spin classes in three dedicated spaces within one large space with their speciality FUSION classes combining 2 modalities in a one hour format.
I have led two 200 Hour YA Teacher Trainings with the Portland Power Yoga School, one 200 Hour YA TT at Scarborough Yoga School and three 200 Hour trainings at Down Dog Yoga.  I led  the first Baptiste inspired 200 Hour YA Teacher Training in October 2018-January 2019 at Iceland Power Yoga in Reykjavik, the first ever Baptiste Power Yoga studio in the Northern Hemisphere.  I have also led Yin Yoga teacher trainings at Down Dog Yoga in DC, at Iceland Power Yoga and at Grace & Glory Studio, a Baptiste affiliate, in Northfield, NJ.  I have also coordinated and led 3 yoga retreats, 2 at the Eco-Resort Blue Osa in Costa Rica and 1 at Quinta Minuvida in the Azores.
I have done extensive work with Landmark Corporation and am a graduate of The Forum, Forum in Action, The Advanced Course and SELP - Self Expression and Leader Program.  I have been a coach for the SELP course and an assistant to Forum Leaders, producer for the Forum and an assistant to 2 Teen Forums.  I am a graduate of the program Being in Action (now called iEvolve) and it's follow up program JUMPSTART.  These programs are part of the curriculum of Concord Institute in London, England.  Both Landmark and Concord Institute work under the premise that:
The most effective pathway to change is grounded in a model of transformative learning. Informative learning adds to people’s skills by bringing new knowledge; transformative learning gives people an awareness of the basic structures in which they know, think, and act. From that awareness comes a fundamental shift that leaves people more fully in accord with their own possibilities and those of others.
My trainings and my focus in training teachers to teach is to facilitate the process of experiential learning as opposed to an accumulation of facts.  I believe it's crucial for yoga teachers, in fact, all teachers, to be equally interested in who they are being with the student along in tandem with their intellectual knowledge.
My speciality is teaching Yin yoga to power yoga students and specifically Baptiste Power Yoga students and teachers.  I use the Baptiste Methodology as a platform to understand the subtle energies of the Koshas, Chakras and Meridian Systems, making the concepts less esoteric and more straightforward in their understanding.
My trainings are multi faceted in that I like to work with practice, practice teaching, journaling, self-inquiry, videos, partnering, etc. to bring all levels of learning into the students experience.  It's also important for yoga students who want to become teachers to understand the fundamental aspects of movement  before going into the classroom to teach.  In my classes and trainings, I work with the principles of the Alexander Technique, the Dart Procedures, developmental and "evolutionary" movement based on the work of Bartenieff and Mabel Todd as a blueprint for the foundation of asana study as well as the Principles of True North Alignment as created by Baron Baptiste.
I have been teaching and practicing the Journey into Power Sequence developed by Baron Baptiste for 18 years and believe it is the physical foundation for the ultimate transformation of body, mind and spirit.  Along with mediation and self-inquiry, the "purpose of the Baptiste Methodology is to awaken and empower human beings to live life full in wholeness and full potential as a moment to moment phenomenon".
