Carissa is the co-owner of Metta Studios. Her mission is to help support individuals in moving toward a greater sense of health and well-being through mindful movement and energetic balancing. Carissa believes that when the physical body is properly aligned therein lies greater opportunity for emotional and spiritual alignment to follow.
She became a student of yoga in 1998 as a means to curb injuries sustained from high impact exercise. Soon after that, Carissa completed 200+ hours of training with YogaFit® and an additional 300 hours of training with Jacqui Bonwell at Sacred Seeds Yoga School. She has been teaching yoga in health clubs, fitness facilities, schools, community centers, clinics and studios since 2001 .
In 2013, she graduated from the Center for Natural Wellness located in Albany, NY where she earned a certificate in massage therapy after completing 1,020 hours of training.
Carissa focused her clinic practice on shiatsu massage and in 2014 completed additional training in Traditional Thai-Yoga Bodywork through The Vedic Conservatory.
Carissa is a devoted student and teacher of Aerial Yoga/Fitness, the Rooted Barre Method, and Johnny Gillespie's Balanced Athlete® method, She is a Certified Level 2 Balanced Athlete® Coach and applies the training methodology and principles to her physical programming.
