Amanda Jacobsen & Jill McKeever
Amanda began practicing yoga as an art student to help relieve the stress of college demands.  While continuing to strengthen her personal yoga practice she went on to complete a post-graduate certificate in Design from the Sotheby’s Institute in London, England.  Wanting to share the gifts of healing and joy yoga had given her, she went on to complete the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification at Kripalu in 2009.  Amanda has been teaching in the Southern Maine area for the past five years and presently teaches a Flow & Restore practice at Yarmouth Yoga Studio in Yarmouth.

At Asia West, Amanda has been able to find a place to connect her main passions of yoga and design.  She focuses on helping clients to bring serenity into their own homes through interior design.  Amanda’s own sacred space is a walk-in closet she transformed into a cozy meditation room.
Lecture: Creating A Sacred Space in your Home. Carving out a special place in your home to connect to mindfulness can bring more abundance, peace and joy into your life.  A sanctuary may be a personal yoga space, meditation altar or simply a place for reflection.  This discussion will help you to create harmony in your home design by weaving together the principles of Fen-Shui, Wabi-Sabi, symbolism and color meaning.  Amanda & Jill will also discuss the design process in creating the altars for this and last year’s Maine YogaFest.  The discussion will also be valuable to yoga studio owners or holistic practitioners looking to create a harmonious environment for their clients.  Questions encouraged and welcomed.

Allison Johnston - Yoga Dirigo/One Love: Maine
Picture
Allison has been working and training in the areas of yoga, leadership, and activism as a unified practice since 2011. However, it was a lifetime of learning about service and connection that inspired Allison to maintain her yoga practice and teaching “off the mat”. Allison is a leader
with Off the Mat, Into the World and locally offers programs as a facilitator with national organizations Yoga Gangsters and Embody Love Movement. In addition to continually learning from yoga-based organizations, Allison works with children with autism and is studying Leadership and Organizational Studies at the University of Southern Maine. Through her current project, Yoga Dirigo, Allison hopes to collectively build the yoga activism movement in Maine.

LECTURE: Yoga Activism & What Does it Mean? As the practice of yoga grows there are many yogis volunteering or showing interest in using yoga as a public service. However, there is a huge mirror being flipped onto the practice of yoga right now as it has evolved in our western world. Is yoga, as we know it today, accessible and truly open to people of all walks of life? Has yoga become a practice for the "privileged"? As this mirror is turned onto the practice as a whole, it is also important to look into our own mirrors. How do we show up when we choose to use yoga as our route to activism? Too
often our own traumas, societal views, and limiting beliefs hinder our attempts at meaningful connection through yoga or can cause us to burn out.Through exploring concepts including shadows, personal gifts, and difficult conversations we will explore how yoga and activism can be about union rather than an "us and them" interaction. We will also discuss how to collaborate, ask for help, and connect to opportunities across the country and state as resources for learning and involvement.

She has for over three years supported wilderness quests and ceremonies and has been an educator and facilitator of groups since 1994.  As a long-time student of the breath and a compassionate and present teacher, Tania is exceptional in her ability to be able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for clients to explore this powerful work. Tania attended the Power of Breath Institute, owned by Jeremy Youst, which has its origins in several powerful tools and methods, most significantly, the B.R.E.T.H. process developed by Kamala Hope-Cambell and taught by Kim Rosen, and the Transformational Breath TM process as developed by Dr. Judith Kravitz.  These methods began as an intensive study of conscious breathing as a way to create health and well-being. They also have roots in Leonard Orr’s Rebirthing Breathwork, yoga, metaphysics, and spiritual healing. Tania will also begin her 200-hour yoga certification training with the Breathing Room in South Portland in June 2014 and looks forward to offering indoor and outdoor group classes as well as private sessions of Vinyasa flow, Restorative, Gentle and Yang/Yin yoga infused with elements of breath inspiration in Southern Maine.

Lecture: Breathwork: Breath & Beyond - An Immersion. What if we were able to integrate aspects of our life and become more fully our whole self with something as simple as our own breath? That is what Breathwork offers- a chance to return to the natural open healthy breath we were born with, an easy flowing breath that is responsive to what we are doing in each moment. Have you ever noticed you are holding your breath? Or that your breath is shallow? Or are you immersed in your own spiritual path and longing for integration and clarity on your next step? Experience the deep and powerful tool of Breathwork sometimes referred to as Therapeutic, Holotropic, Transformational Breathwork or Re-Birthing.  This is a Breathwork Immersion lecture- bring your mat. We will spend 30 minutes lying down providing you with a chance to use the power of your own breath to gain clarity, let go of stress, integrate hidden aspects of our self, and feel more alive in your body than you ever imagined.  Guided by music and facilitated by long-time Breathwork practioner, Tania Neuschafer Zuckerman, this is the perfect way to honor your own inner yogi in a deep and intimate way.
