CARISSA CIUCA

Carissa owns Breathing Room Yoga in South Portland, a sweet yoga space that has grown into a thriving studio with a heart and soul all its own. She travels often between Philly and Maine to teach classes, meet with private clients, conduct workshops and direct a 200-hour vinyasa training at Breathing Room.  She also leads an annual Yoga + Spa Retreat to Tulum, Mexico.

For Carissa, yoga is a unique and sacred conversation between mind, body, spirit and breath.  But, it’s also fun, creative, laughable, surprising, (at times frustrating!), and a great teacher in and of itself.  It is a gift.

Carissa's classes weave a blend of humor and music, balanced by intelligently sequenced asana, pranayama and ancient yoga philosophy, providing a full spectrum yogic experience in each and every class.

Her teaching is informed by her study with many wise teachers over the years.  Carissa first stepped onto a yoga mat in 2001 and began teaching in 2007.  She received her initial vinyasa training at the renowned Flow Yoga Center in Washington, DC.  And since then, has completed a teachers' training with Seane Corn and another teachers' training with Maty Ezraty.

When she's not teaching yoga, you might catch her cruising on her antique bike, singing loudly in the car, hiking with her husband or hanging in the sun with her kids in her arms. Carissa does her best to embrace the constant change offered up by a full and exciting life and is full of wonder for the gifts all around us.
