Dana Marcoux

My practice with the art of awareness, alignment, energy and intent began over 30 years ago with Transcendental Meditation in 1981. I then went to Los Angeles to study with Zen Master Rama in 1985. His teachings of Zen Buddhism brought me to a very disciplined sitting practice and serious study. In 1994 my Ashtanga yoga practice began in earnest with Maty Ezraty of Yoga Works in Santa Monica. A natural desire to expand the limits of consciousness, intention and the flow of energy serendipitously brought an introduction to world renowned author and shaman Carlos Castaneda with whom I studied with for a year. The documentary Carlos Castaneda; Enigma of a Sorcerer which I helped to produce was released in 2003.www.castanedamovie.com.

My yoga teacher training began in 2001 with Yin Yoga teacher Paul Grilley whose influences include Paulie Zinks Taoist Yoga/Yin Yoga and Dr. Hiroshi Motoyamas (Modern Meridian Theory). I continued my studies with Erich Schiffmann at Sacred Movement Yoga (Exhale, formally of Yogaworks). Erich's greatest lesson for me was to "pause" throughout one's practice to absorb and process the experiences and to go with the flow of the energy available. I've now taught for 11 years with a natural and casual playfulness, I love to teach and also continue to practice with as many teachers as I can get to. My Hatha flow class stirs, warms, moves, builds, stores, exerts and strengthens ENERGY. My teaching is spirited, musical, fun and personally infused with energetic theories of the meridians, chakras, shamanic energy work and Yogic alignment. Please check out a class and change the way you feel about practice.

I returned to my home town of Portland Maine in October of 2011 after 25 years of seeking wisdom, experience and knowledge. I am thrilled to be back "home" and sharing my love for yoga and spiritual practices in general.
