Chris Byrne is a 500 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher & Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider serving Maine and beyond. He is grateful to call Metta Studios his home in the thriving community of Biddeford, ME. Chris also teaches with Sea Change Yoga bringing the healing power of yoga and meditation through trauma-informed classes to students in correctional centers and recovery centers around southern Maine.
Chris’ teaching journey started with meditative yin yoga training in 2015 through My Meditative Yoga with Sagel Urlacher. He then completed his 200-Hour (2017) & 300-Hour (2020) yoga training through Sacred Seeds Yoga School where he studied with Jacqui Bonwell, Erica Magro-Cahill and Katie Beane. He has trained with Lakshmi Sutter and is certified in Accessible Yoga®, and has relentlessly studied Balanced Athlete® with Johnny Gillespie, Carissa Rubin, and Jacqui Bonwell.
Chris came to the practice of yoga in 2012 after surgery on both legs sidelined him from running, biking and hiking for most of the year. Over the course of his practice and studies, Chris developed a belief that the practice of yoga is not a quest for a picture-perfect, magazine cover-pose. Instead, the practice is one of of self-discovery, creating space to bring you back to your true self – one that is centered in love, kindness, joy, and compassion.
Chris is focused on creating safe, welcoming spaces where all people can come to the practice of yoga – all bodies, abilities, backgrounds and experiences. His mission is to let every single person know that they are worthy of the love, compassion, kindness, joy that resides in each of us.
His approach to teaching brings thoughtful, safe sequencing that is designed to be accessible for all bodies and abilities. He focuses on introducing integrated movement practices to foster a stronger mind-body-spirit connection. Accompanied by good humor and a spirited play list, he encourages you to find the shape or posture that feels right for you in the moment.
He looks forward to sharing the gift of this practice with the community around him, especially welcoming new students to the practice of yoga and mindfulness!
