Introduction to Aerial Yoga - Co-Teaching with Kelly Corbin Approach your yoga from a fresh perspective with aerial yoga! This class uses soft fabric hammocks to help students explore new ways of practicing yoga asanas. Students will move through a sequence of standing, sitting, and inverted postures using the fabric to support the weight of the body. We'll touch gently on strengthening and ease into a peaceful floating savasana. Aerial yoga is a wonderful tool for spinal decompression, as it allows for safe and fully supported inversions. Let your practice take flight with us!

Eric Newton
A self proclaimed “Jack of all trades”, Eric comes from a diverse background of athletics and physical activities with an expertise in Yoga and functional training. In Early 2011 he received his 200 Hour RYT certified through Jacqui Bonwell's Sacred Seeds Yoga School. Eric also became Kettlebell certified through Body By John in 2012. These two trainings, as well as personal hobbies and intense self study, allow him to develop a comprehensive workout that incorporates strength training, muscle conditioning, endurance work, balance, and proper muscle lengthening. His personal goal is to create a purposeful workout that can translate into activities outside of the gym and improve overall health.
He understands the amount of stress ones body can go through on a daily basis so his classes are designed to be sustainable for your body, while still pushing you to new limits. He is a fun, and laid back guy that can also lay down the iron fist when necessary to help you achieve your personal goals.

Alex Molo
Alex came to his dedicated yoga practice in a pivotal point in his life. After six months of sobriety he enrolled in a 200hr RYT teacher training with Corepower in Boulder, CO. Weeks after the end of his 200hr RYT, he began a 100hr extensions program, also through Corepower. By the completion of the training, Alex had embraced yoga as a powerful tool for personal transformation and committed to sharing the power of yoga with his fellow recovering addicts. He spent time teaching at a sober house, Corepower studio in Boulder, CO and at a wilderness program out of Durango, CO.
Alex completed Baptiste Level 1 teacher training in Aug. 2012. He is a member of the Yoga Alliance and an active member in the recovery community in Portland. He works to help students look inside and find strength within. He wants to share his experience of Yoga from the heart and open his students’ minds and body’s. He loves to learn and attends numerous workshops including topics on core, inversions, assisting, transitions, and foundations. When Alex is not teaching or practicing yoga, he’s climbing, biking, hiking or doing crossfit.

We Dance - Live Music By Heath MacVane This powerful healing practice, Vinyasa Flow, allows us to connect breath with movement. Heidi will lead you through a 90 minute flow while encouraging you to connect with your own rhythm. This thoughtful sequence will incorporate asanas connected to all 7 chakras. Through opening the energetic channels within yourself you will be empowered to find your authentic truth and wisdom that lies within. As we mindfully flow and practice connecting with ourselves we begin to find a greater capacity for compassion within and towards others around us. This practice will allow this state of calm to be more readily available when we need it, helping us to dance a little lighter, and with grace on and off our mats!
Carissa Ciuca
Carissa Ciuca (eRYT-200) invites students to be honest with themselves and interpret the sensations in the body and breath as whispered instructions (sometimes shouts!) for how to live the best life. Her classes are infused with great music, plenty of options and encouragement. She blends a creative, steady flowing class with a healthy dose of alignment cues, balancing humor and modern modifications with traditional yoga philosophy and practices. Each class includes breath work, movement, awareness and, finally, sweet stillness!
Carissa has had the joy of working with students of varying interests and abilities over the years, from sweaty flowing vinyasa students to peaceful fertility-seeking yoga mamas. In January 2011, Carissa said a prayer, took a leap and brought a dream to life, opening Breathing Room.
She received her 200-hour teacher training at Flow Yoga Center in Washington DC, led by Debra Mishalove. She has studied with Alison West, Michael Plasha, Simon Park, Alanna Kaivalya, David Regelin and others. And, in 2012, Carissa completed a vinyasa teacher training in Washington, DC with Seane Corn. Carissa has been named an ambassador to lululemon athletica, a partnership further educating and connecting our community via the practice of yoga.
At Breathing Room, Carissa leads group classes and workshops, trains new yoga teachers, and directs the day-to-day operations of our studio. But outside of the studio, you might find Carissa having dance parties with her two small children, singing loudly in the car, practicing yoga on her kitchen floor, perusing the farmer’s market, or standing atop a mountain, embracing Maine’s natural beauty with her husband at her side. Lately, when she practices, she can feel & hear nothing but a single word: grateful.

Class Description
Goddess Flow with Live Music By Sara Hallie Richardson - Explore breath and movement in this class design to empower your own inner goddess. We are every character in every tale of the Hindu folklore tradition, we can do the same in our yoga practice. As we move through this flowing sequence we’ll build heat and strength as we awaken our Kali self to establish confidence and power. We’ll build a sequence to link movement and breath that establishes the beauty, devotion, health and abundance of our own inner Lakshmi. And by backbending we can shine with the light of the divine through our own heart center and channel Parvati. Come take care of yourself, be present and love yourself just the way you are. All-levels welcome.
Gretchen Campos
Gretchen Campos has cherished the practice of asana since just about the first time she was on a borrowed mat in a cramped bedroom following a VHS tape in January 2000.
Through exploring yoga and developing a deeper awareness of the whole practice, she was able to find consistency and stability in a sometimes geographically widespread life. She thanks all the fellow students she has practiced amongst in all the corners of the country she has visited. Some of the most influential of those have been the Haines Yoga Club in Haines AK, time with Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville CA and the amazing yogis of Boston and the Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts.
She completed her 200-hour Yoga Alliance certified teacher training with Prana Power Yoga, in Cambridge, MA in 2007. Leading classes since then, she constantly strives to provide a mindful and breath centered practice while sharing an attitude of lightness with her fellow practitioners.
Recently moving to Maine, she is pleased to be a member of South Portland’s own Greener Postures Yoga community.

Danielle Toolan
Danielle started practicing yoga regularly at Prana Power Yoga in 2004 where she met her current business partner, Heidi MacVane. In 2007, she completed her first teacher training with Open Doors in Weymouth, MA and immediately began to teach. She feels lucky to have taught full time with Prana Power Yoga for two years where she fell in love not only with teaching yoga but being part of a yoga community. Danielle’s parents moved to Falmouth, ME in 2007 and after visiting them over the past few years she grew to love the Portland area. In the fall of 2009 she decided to make the move to Maine to be closer to her family and to open Greener Postures Yoga with Heidi MacVane.
Danielle graduated from James Madison University with a BS in Health Assessment and Promotion and completed a 10-month program to become a certified Holistic Health Counselor at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in NYC. In addition to her first teacher training Danielle completed a 200-hour teacher training with Jacqui Bonwell in 2011, a training in teaching hip-hop yoga with Lynne Begier, as well as an advanced teacher training with Ame Wren and David Regelin. By continually exposing herself to different programs, workshops and instructors over the years, she has used these experiences as important stepping stones on her yogic path and to inform her own practice and teaching style.

When Tom Abate was 11 his father asked him to leave the house. He lived with his drug-addicted mother for three years, then fled.
At 14, Tom was homeless on the streets of Portland, and Preble Street helped keep him alive while his talent for composing rhymes and hip hop beats started to attract attention . . . . and a recording deal in Los Angeles that came with a $200,000 advance on royalties, a car, and a company-leased apartment.
Tom Abate, who has come a long way from his homeless days and nights in Portland, remembers and appreciates those who helped him along the way:
"If this doesn't work out, I'd take every dime I've made and go back to Portland and give it to Preble Street."

Class Description
Yoga For Athletes - Yoga can be the perfect complement to your athletic endeavors. This is not intense, athletic yoga; rather, the postures are carefully selected and instructed in a way to counterbalance your training. You can expect to work on strength, balance, core, flexibility, and restorative postures, as we explore the breath and mental focus and how it applies to your sport or training.
Class Description
Be Your Own BodyWorker – Myofascial Release - Escape the muscle, bustle and stretch of it all and join us for this warm and welcoming introductory approach to freeing long held myofascial tension patterns using manual therapy tools to release and align the body. The soma system is a series of deep tissue techniques designed to align and invigorate your body. Using myofascial release tools, inflatable balls and foam rollers we will ease and nourish your body and deepen your awareness and practice by freeing tension and restoring fullness of breath and freedom of motion. All levels are welcome.
Based on the work of Ida P. Rolf and Tom Myers, we will begin at the feet and then work "down the back" and "up the front" of the body - releasing myofascial tension in the upper shoulders, back, mid and lower back, gluts, tfl, hamstrings, and calves before moving to the lateral shins, quads, hip flexors, psoas, pec minor and major and ending in a sweet, serenaded restoration. You will leave standing tall, breathing deeply, and living open hearted. Live music by Katie Matzell.
