    WORKSHOP: details to come

  • Abe's been practicing yoga off and on for many years, but truly fell in love with yoga when Silvia was doing her yoga teaching training in 2020. His practice was becoming more consistent as Silvia was teaching more. He had no idea how life changing yoga could be when practiced on a consistent level, it changed his body and his mind - "yoga is all about the mind body connection". With every class, he began to see how strong he was and how his mind was becoming calmer and focused. The more Abe practiced, the more he fell in love, he wanted to continue his yoga journey and help others. In 2021 Abe had an urge to share the amazing healing power of yoga, so he signed up for his 200 hour yoga teacher training with The Daily Sweat. Abe's main practice today is Ashtanga yoga. He loves the intensity and consistency of the practice.

WORKSHOP: Foundations of Flight: Arm Balance Workshop

An arm balance workshop offers a unique opportunity to deepen one’s yoga practice by focusing on strength, alignment, and body awareness. Participants can build upper body and core strength, boosting confidence as they learn to support themselves in new ways. With personalized feedback and hands-on adjustments, attendees gain immediate, expert guidance on alignment and technique, which is essential for safe practice and injury prevention. Workshops also help overcome mental blocks and fears by providing a supportive environment, making it easier to explore challenging poses. With modifications and progressions, the workshop is suitable for all levels, allowing everyone to advance at their own pace. Additionally, learning to coordinate breath with movement enhances stability, control, and mental resilience. By joining a workshop, practitioners also connect with a like-minded community, creating a fun, supportive space to grow and enjoy the journey of mastering arm balances.

  • Holly Martzial has been teaching both barre and yoga for over a decade. She taught ferociously from 2015 until the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 when she consciously took a step back from teaching to spend time at home with her little boy and focus her energy on renovating her house and growing her digital marketing career. During her hiatus, Holly reconnected with her personal practice and began to evaluate when and how she would once again hold the seat of a teacher. In 2023 she felt the calling to re-enter the studio, starting off slow with a single matte class at the Portland Yoga Project, later adding a vinyasa flow class to her regular schedule, and is excited to continue to mindfully grow her offerings as both time and space allow. Her teaching style is rooted in alignment and strengthening functional movement through intelligent sequencing. Holly’s classes consistently showcase her dry sense of humor, solid playlist-building abilities, and her fierce aspiration to always speak with intention and clarity.

WORKSHOP: This workshop is for barre-curious yogis interested in adding a bit of fire to their flow. We will begin with 45 minutes of barre, a low-impact yet challenging full-body workout that builds strength by isolating and fatiguing our major muscle groups through small, repetitive movements. This barre class can be modified for those who are new to the practice and will challenge even the seasoned barre practitioner. Once we have thoroughly worked to tone the body, we will temper the fire we've built with a deep, slow, flow designed to stretch and lengthen our muscles. The second half of this workshop will incorporate grounding, cooling, yoga poses to counterbalance the more challenging first half.

WORKSHOP 1: SLOW THE FUNK DOWN (tandem taught with Molly Donlan)

Sometimes it feels like the circus of life is swirling on by like a merry-go-round out of control. Flying faster and faster, careening out of control as the minutes turn into hours into days into weeks – overwhelmed by work, the future, the past, the present, family, friends, social media, news cycles, appointments, tasks, chores – everything flying by so fast that you find yourself screaming out into the void of space "CAN I JUST HAVE A MOMENT TO SLOW THE FUNK DOWN!" We feel that in our bones – and we are so happy to be here for you! Join Chris Byrne and Molly Donlan as they invite you to slow down and get back to yourself. Stirring up that inner peace – feeling the dance between your body, your mind, your breath, and your heart. Chris will offer a slow and deliberate flow sequence followed by Molly guiding you through a meditative yin yoga sequence shaped by your own intuition and inner wisdom. This radical act of “slowing the funk down” will offer you the space to pull it back together. To gather your awareness and attention and center it back on the most important person in the entire world – you. If you have taken this class before, you already know to expect the unexpected. We never quite know exactly where the practice will lead. Driven by great music, wonderfully terrible jokes, spirited language, game plan busting improv, fueled by the spirit of your presence – this practice invites everyone to come along together wherever the moment takes us. What is for certain is that Chris and Molly will offer you the space to slow down and the invitation to connect with whatever you need from moment to moment.

WORKSHOP 2: Integrated Yoga for Athletes

As the saying goes, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” Every moment of everyday your body is moving. It is working. From sleep and relaxation to playing, training, sporting, and working, you are always engaging with your body to move through your day. How often are you aware of what you are doing or how you are moving? How often are you intentionally engaging with correctional actions to support your body in a balanced way? Your cycles of movement and posture create habits and patterns that often go unnoticed. Over time, this can lead to imbalance and asymmetry that increase wear and tear on your body. By integrating yoga, mindfulness, breathwork, and core functional movement principles, you can create a stronger foundation for your body. You can increase your ability to move with balance, ease, strength, and mobility while preventing injury and increasing longevity. This workshop will emphasize how the entire body is connected through movement; on identifying movement patterns and habits; release of muscular and fascial tension; improving stability and mobility dynamics for well-rounded performance and movement through all facets of your day-to-day life. This practice will help you learn how to reset and strengthen the core foundation of your body’s movement. It is for anybody that moves for fun, sport, or function and with any experience ranging from the just-getting-going to those at the top of their game. In short, this practice is for you!

  • Kim Stanton, 500-hour YTT, is an instructor at The Daily Sweat in Kennebunk, Maine. Kim has always had a love for fitness and was drawn to yoga as a way to find balance in a sometimes- unbalanced world.  She believes in the benefits of yoga for all, including athletes and fitness enthusiasts. She discovered that lessons we learn on the mat can be much more meaningful in our daily life off the mat and she enjoys sharing that with her students. Kim has also been a group fitness instructor for many years, she started her career teaching aerobic classes, which included kickboxing, step and weight training classes. Kim’s teaching focuses on creating a safe and appropriate practice for each person who enters her class, always bringing attention back to the breath while reminding her students of proper alignment and form. She loves learning and expanding her knowledge in the fitness industry, and she is looking forward to sharing that with her students.

WORKSHOP 1: VINYASA FLOW + MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

Join Kim Stanton for a rejuvenating and unique blend of Vinyasa Flow and myofascial release class that promotes strength, flexibility, mobility and breathwork. As we flow through a sequence of postures, you’ll cultivate a deep connection to your body and breath, allowing you to find your rhythm and flow. This class will culminate in a soothing myofascial release session, where you’ll learn techniques to alleviate tension, improve circulation and range of motion with the use of RAD balls. This mindful practice will leave you feeling refreshed, restored, and more in tune with your body. We will begin with a grounding meditation to center ourselves, followed by a creative vinyasa flow that encourages fluid movement and breath connection. We will wind down with myofascial release techniques to target tight muscles and fascia. Myofascial release is soft tissue therapy for releasing tension in the fascial that restricts movement in our bodies. Fascia gives muscles their shape, connects muscles to other muscles and bone, and generally holds everything in place on your skeleton. When you add compression and shearing, we can stimulate small receptors in our body that help muscle and tissue relax and lengthen. Longer muscles and less tension led to having less compression of joints, a wider range of motion and increased mobility. Expect to flow through creative sequences that build strength and flexibility while taking moments to pause and release deeper tensions in the body. Come ready to explore and unwind!

  • Hi I'm Andrea.  My love for yoga started when I was training for a triathlon in 2011.  Chronically pulling a rib out of alignment during training, I went to a chiropractor who said, "you can do more for yourself than I can do for you, go do yoga".
If you've met me, it's not surprising that once I started practicing yoga, I wanted more.   I took my 200 HR Teacher Training with Jacqui Bonwell in 2012/2013, and opened Scarborough Yoga in September of 2014.  I've continued my studies:  Completing my 300 HR Teacher Training in 2020, also with Jacqui Bonwell, Yin trainings with Josh Summers, Meditation and Pranayama with Shiva Shakti, Restorative with Robin Ivy Payton, Sequencing with Amy Ippoliti and more.
My dream for a Scarborough Yoga has always been that it is more than a place to practice yoga, that it is  a COMMUNITY.  10 years and a pandemic later, Scarborough Yoga is exactly that!
I love teaching, I love learning and I love sharing what I learn with my students. I lean toward the quieter yoga practices and teach predominantly yin yoga.
I look forward to meeting you on your mat!

WORKSHOP: Yin Yoga ~ Balancing Life

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Everything in the natural world is made up of yin and yang, especially humans.  In today’s face paced, always connected yang world, it’s often challenging to find balance.  By nurturing the yin aspects of your life and body you can help to create more ease,  balance and perhaps more harmony.

Your life experiences shape how you view the world, how you operate in your daily life and under stress which in turn influences how you live in your body, your posture, breath, levels of stress and even your thoughts.

When we experience stress our very yang sympathetic nervous system takes charge.  When we are relaxed, our yin parasympathetic nervous system is engaged.

Our yang muscles love to move repetitively, to get the blood pumping and generate warmth.  Our ligaments, tendons and fascia prefer the longer, quieter yin holds that coax these tissues to become stronger and more pliable and allow for more range of motion.

Even our subtle energetic body has fiery channels and cooler channels.   The key to balance is nurturing all aspects.

In this whole-body Yin practice, you will hold posture each for 4-5 minutes, just on your edge of resistance.  Think of these postures as an opportunity to have a conversation with the issues in your tissues, gently asking for more space.  The time spent in each posture can be a mini meditation, offering time to get in touch with your breath, quiet your mind, sooth your nervous system and nurture that balance.

This workshop is appropriate for all levels of ability.  If you have your own props, please bring them.

For this workshop, Sarah will introduce the principles of the Katonah Yoga®️theory. We will explore how we use the metaphor of a body as a house as a tool organizing oneself in a pose both imaginatively and physically. The workshop will include lecture, physical practice, lots of hands on adjustments and will give space for Q&A. This workshop is appropriate for students, teachers and body workers alike.
